Tufts Archival Research Center is the archives and manuscript repository of Tufts University and is open to the public. TARC’s team of professional archivists provides stewardship for the Tufts University Archives, nearly three hundred manuscript collections, and other permanently valuable physical and digital archival materials. TARC staff also assist Tufts students, faculty, and staff with recordkeeping activities, through records management and digital library services. TARC's stewardship responsibilities are mandated by the Board of Trustees, as outlined in the University Records Policy. TARC is a central University unit reporting to the Office of the Provost.
The Archivist and Project Manager participates in and manages TARC’s work related to the launch of a university-wide collaborative research project to examine the history of slavery, colonialism, and their legacies at Tufts. The Archivist and Project Manager supports several functions related to the project including communication and collaboration with faculty, post-doctoral fellows and undergraduate students, conducting research and responding to reference requests, creating progress reports and summaries of findings, and participating in physical and digital exhibit creation. The Archivist and Project Manager may also conduct archival processing for collections relevant to the project and assists with other departmental needs related to the project.
ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent experience with concentration in archives management or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement complex projects
Demonstrated knowledge of archival theory and practice, including experience processing archival records and conducting archival research
Knowledge of relevant standards for archival description including DACS, EAD and EAC-CPF.
Excellent supervisory and organizational skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a variety of staff in a rapidly changing environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred:
Background in African American History, Afro-Indigenous Studies, Public History, and/or the History of Universities
Experience with family history and genealogical research
