The work of IDEAL is focused on four cross-campus areas that affect students, faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and staff: (1) Recruitment, (2) Research, (3) Education, and (4) Engagement.
The Vice Provost for Institutional Equity, Access and Community, and Special Advisor to the President (Vice Provost), who also serves as the Executive Director of IDEAL, is seeking experienced candidates whose primary role will be to serve as Director of the IDEAL Initiative, and Project Manager for IDEAL and other work performed by the Vice Provost. This position will assist with the development, implementation and management of programs, initiatives, infrastructure and communications. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and being part of a collaborative team. They must have excellent communication skills, enjoy working with a wide variety of people, and have the demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize quickly and professionally in response to requests. This role requires complex navigation skills in ambiguous terrain and requires patience, flexibility, sharp attention to detail, and a high level of professionalism and political savvy--including a superb level of tact and discretion.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead strategic planning and analysis for complex functions or programs with significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise. Provide development of programs and functions from initial concept to implementation.
- Manage the administration and evaluation of programs or functions. Recommend actions and/or resolve complex issues that often span organizational boundaries.
- Developing processes, practices and policies that facilitate the implementation and embedding of diversity and equity principles in a holistic and sustainable manner across multiple organizations.
- Perform the full range of project management cycle including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Lead projects requiring functional integration. Complete sub-project and/or stand-alone elements.
- Develop and manage outreach strategy that includes relationship development, communications, and compliance.
- Oversee and administer activities by evaluating programs, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and coordinating and implementing changes.
- Manage the development of an action plans.
- Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive recommendation consensus within scope of responsibility.
- Collect and analyze data, develop metrics, create reports, review and explain trends to determine program effectiveness; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program.
- Develop communication strategy, edit, revise and draft internal and external communication in across multiple media.
- Write and edit content for proposals and other program activities under the general direction of Vice Provost.

Required:
- Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in (a) management of projects of moderate size/complexity, including strategy development, project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting; and (b) supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in a complex organization is preferred.
- A sincere and demonstrated commitment promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging for all campus community members.
- Perform the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling, and closing. Independently lead and direct projects requiring high levels of functional integration and involving multiple disciplines to be managed.
- Direct development of an action plan, and estimate requirements for resources, including management and time required to complete project.
- Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive recommendation consensus.
- Develop and help execute comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to project scope and stakeholders; orchestrate and lead change management methodologies underlying project success.
- Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem-solving skills in a variety of situations to build and sustain respectful and collaborative relationships/networks, internal and external to the office.
- Demonstrated effective emotional intelligence, keen grasp of interpersonal and impact awareness.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies, with or without authority, which could span multiple organizational boundaries.
- Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
- Highly effective written and oral communication skills to address a wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to productively assemble, engage, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.
- Ability to operate efficiently and effectively in highly nuanced and sometimes ambiguous situations.
- Ability to balance expectations with project reality.
- Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to effectively deliver projects.
- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
